Who Am I
I have loved doing science to unravel the stories the natural world is telling. I love writing about these stories. I think more deeply through writing, joyful to join a community of the curious.
I began with a B.S. in Geology and Geophysics from Yale University, becoming a geophysicist in oil and gas exploration. I returned to Yale for a Ph.D. in Biology, my conversion to microbiology complete after a postdoc and then Research Assistant Professor position in Microbiology at the University of Washington in Seattle. Subsequent work as Scientific Editor for the journal Cell Host & Microbe prepared me to focus on global health at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where I worked for almost 13 years, followed by almost a year at the Allen Institute.
I then switched to full-time writing. I use the Necker Cube as a company name because it symbolizes a flexible way of seeing – and the power of writing to open minds.
